Site selection is a preliminary activity for any wind farm development. It is carried out in order to ascertain potential of wind power generation in terms of its technical feasibility and commercial viability. Historical macro wind patterns, terrain and geographical information help in identifying potential sites.

As part of site selection, a study of land and power evacuation availability is carried out. This helps in utilizing the optimum capacity of a site. During this phase the suitability of any site in terms of approachability, logistics, project execution easiness and socio- environmental conditions is also studied.

Wind Measurement and Data Analysis is used to validate the macro wind patterns considered during site selection to bring precision in assessment. This gives precise wind patterns of a particular area in terms of wind velocity, direction and other required meteorological parameters, essential for wind farm development.

In order to design the layout of the entire wind farm, it is important to understand the wind pattern at each point of the site under consideration. This is done through wind simulation software models which extrapolate the wind patterns of the mast location to other points of the site.

Design and Engineering plays a major role in construction of sub-stations. It mainly covers Civil and Electrical Engineering. Civil Engineering covers contour survey, Soil investigation and provides the foundation design and volume of earth work required at site. Electrical design covers layout arrangement, control, protection and automation systems for the sub-station, estimation and sizing of various auxiliary systems, namely sizing of DC and AC system, earthing and illumination system, cabling system, transfer of sub-station data to Load Despatch centres using PLCC / FOTE.

Project management is responsible for developing a project execution plan, developing overall construction sequence, performing substation construction reviews during design phase, developing and implementing a contracting strategy for the substations, developing the scope of work for all contracting packages and overseeing the development and review of all specifications to support Request for Proposal (RFP).
