Transportation of ODC to Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Power Project, Nepal for Andritz Hydro Limited

CLIENT

Andritz hydro

LOCATION

50MW, Upper Tamakoshi, Nepal

TYPE OF PROJECT

Transportation of ODC Material

Scope of work

Transportation of ODC materials across the constructed bye-pass from Birganj to Sunkoshi Powerhouse during monsoon. To construct a temporary bye- pass across Sunkoshi river for passage of critical ODC Cargo

Key Challenges

  • The logistics route has a major river Sunkoshi, 70kms from Kathmandu. The bridge over it is weak and unfit to transport materials weighing more than 22 Metric Tonnes.
  • As per contract in the first phase we had clear 60 days before monsoon to cross 21 units of materials weighing more than 22 Metric Tonnes. The bank-to-bank distance was quite long and not suitable for bridge strengthening

Our approach

We had only option to build a cause way across the river. For this, we required permission from PWD, local authorities.

It was obtained and under our supervision the causeway was built on the running river with a draft level varying from 1.5 – 2.95 MTR.

We also had to get it certified by the competent authorities for safe transportation within the scheduled time.

Additionally, we handled dismantling the same to avoid flash floods during the monsoon.

Sustainability focus

A bye-pass with clear water passage was created so that the flow of the river was not disturbed.

It was dismantled to avoid flash floods creating damage to the adjoining villages on either bank.
